Support Your Health and Wellbeing
Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most widely practiced forms of medicine in the world and originates in China.
As a practitioner based in Surbiton, Surrey, I offer acupuncture to help restore balance, reduce stress, and support your body. Whether you’re seeking help with a chronic condition, better sleep, improved digestion, or simply a sense of calm, acupuncture can be a gentle yet powerful addition to your healthcare.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body. These points are chosen to influence the flow of qi, the vital energy that circulates through the body. By stimulating these points, acupuncture aims to restore harmony and promote wellbeing. It is a safe, minimally invasive therapy with a long history of use.
What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a key component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), a system that has been developed and refined over thousands of years. In TCM, health is seen as a state of balance and illness arises when this balance is disrupted. Acupuncture seeks to correct imbalances, alleviate symptoms, and enhance the body’s own healing capacity.
Modern research suggests that acupuncture may impact the nervous system, promote the release of endorphins (the body’s natural painkillers), and improve circulation. It is used to address a wide range of conditions, from musculoskeletal pain to stress and digestive issues.
How Acupuncture May Help
Acupuncture is often used to support a variety of health concerns. Here’s how it may help:
- Pain Relief: Acupuncture may help reduce pain by stimulating the release of endorphins and improving blood flow to affected areas. It is commonly used for back pain, neck pain, and joint pain.
- Stress and Anxiety: By calming the nervous system, acupuncture may help reduce stress, improve sleep, and promote relaxation.
- Digestive Health: Acupuncture may support digestion by addressing imbalances in the digestive system, such as bloating, IBS, or acid reflux.
- Fatigue and Low Energy: If you’re feeling run down, acupuncture may help restore energy levels and improve vitality.
- Immune Support: Regular acupuncture may help strengthen the immune system, making it more resilient to seasonal illnesses.
What to Expect During Your Treatment
Your first session will begin with a thorough consultation. I’ll ask about your health history, current symptoms, and any concerns you have. This helps me tailor your treatment to your individual needs.
During the treatment, you’ll lie comfortably on a treatment couch. I use single-use, sterile needles, which are inserted at specific points. Most people feel little to no discomfort, and many find the experience deeply relaxing. The first appointment lasts 90-105 minutes and follow-up sessions typically last between 45 and 55 minutes.
Many patients report feeling a sense of calm and wellbeing after their first treatment. Some may experience immediate relief, while others notice gradual improvements over a course of sessions.
Who Is Acupuncture Suitable For?
Acupuncture is suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds. It can be particularly beneficial for those looking for a natural, holistic approach to health, or for those who wish to complement conventional medical treatments.
